An Inconvenient Talk

May 28, 2009 Aaron Stock market

This is a very fascinating and scary article about “The Talk” a Peak Oil proponent gives about how our world is going to change.

A must read:

I forgot to give a hat tip to Paul Kedrosky for finding this article.

One issue this talk ignores is the acceleration of information technologies, notably solar, at a rate sufficient to meet or exceed increased world demand for energy. While it’s true that a geologist may have more insightful opinions on hydrocarbons, an electrical engineer may have certain advantages in thinking about solar. Indeed, there are some scientists who claim that solar power will be cost competitive with coal in as soon as 5 years:

I think the truth may lie somewhere in between these two extremes.

Incidentally, Aaron, I have been following you closely on VIC, and I am a huge fan. Take heart – PNWIF, HEM, and DSNY are all still doing all the right things! Keep up the good work and have faith – I have confidence you will be vindicated!

I was at a local farm over the weekend that generated all of its energy from solar panels. The solar panel array was quite small relative to the size of the farm. Impressive.
